Our dedication to maintaining superior standards extends to the application of the Poly Zinc Undercoat, using the revolutionary Zincshield®2 by Dulux.

Zincshield®2: A Strong Foundation

Zincshield®2 is an epoxy-based thermosetting powder coating that contains a high concentration of zinc. Its purpose is twofold: to inhibit rust and prevent adhesion loss on ferrous metals. It acts as a reliable undercoat for powder topcoats like the Alphatec® range, Duralloy®FPG, and Duralloy®. Additionally, where appropriate, Zincshield®2 can even serve as a functional topcoat.

Priming Process: Surface Perfection

After our trailers undergo meticulous sandblasting, achieving a class 2.5 finish, the Zincshield®2 undercoat is promptly applied. We ensure that moisture uptake is eliminated by immediately applying the topcoat. To guarantee optimal performance, we meticulously inspect new mild steel surfaces for any imperfections—such as millscale, rust, sharp edges, burr marks, welding flux, forming or machine oils, salts, chemical contamination, or mortar splashes—and remove them before coating.

Electrostatic Application and Green Cure

Our skilled technicians apply the Zincshield®2 electrostatically, ensuring complete coverage of every surface of the trailer. Afterward, the undercoat undergoes a partial cure known as the green cure. This entails subjecting the trailer to a metal temperature of 120­-150°C for 3-5 minutes. This process effectively dries the metal from the inside out, fully sealing the trailer's surface and preventing any rusting from within or below the surface.

Sacrificial Layer and Additional Benefits

The poly zinc undercoat not only provides robust protection but also acts as a sacrificial layer, significantly increasing the service life of your trailer.
